FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville State University, a historically Black university (HBCU), is on lockdown Thursday morning after reports surfaced of an armed individual on campus.
At 11:00 a.m., the university issued an emergency “Bronco Alert,” instructing students and staff to immediately seek shelter, lock and barricade doors, remain out of sight, and silence all electronics. The alert urged the campus community to stay in place until officials give the all-clear.
A second alert, sent twelve minutes later, confirmed the presence of an “armed subject on campus” and repeated the urgent warning for everyone to shelter in place.
Law enforcement and campus police are actively responding to the situation. As of this hour, no injuries have been reported, and authorities have not released additional information about the suspect or their location.
Fayetteville State University, part of the University of North Carolina system, serves thousands of students and is one of the nation’s oldest public HBCUs. The unfolding situation has sent shockwaves through the campus community and beyond, as students huddle behind locked doors, messaging loved ones while waiting for updates.
University officials are urging everyone to monitor official FSU alerts and refrain from sharing unverified information on social media.
